GPSVISION MOBILE DIGITAL DATA COLLECTION SERVICE -
NEW HIGH-TECH INDUSTRY ASSISTS VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Waukesha, WI - Lambda Tech International, Inc. has signed a $2.8 Million sub-contract with PB Facilities, Inc. of Herndon, VA. The project consists of driving over 28,000 miles with their GPSVision system for a master contract with Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT). This represents both the highest value and largest mileage volume in a single project using this technology to date.
GPSVision vans will drive at posted speeds where possible, collecting right-of-way and centerline data. The technology incorporates GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite data, an inertial measurement device and stereo digital cameras, allowing for exact positioning of the required elements of data. The system saves both time and money when compared to older methods of terrestrial data recording, while delivering highly accurate results. The technology has been growing rapidly for the past six years, and is currently being used in both road and railroad environments.
The Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Transportation is responsible for management, planning, engineering, construction and maintenance for Virginia’s 55,000-mile state highway system, the third largest state-maintained road system in the nation. The data provided by the mobile mapping system will be used in an Inventory and Condition Assessment System (ICAS) as part of their on-going improvement planning, PB Facilities, Inc., a Parsons Brinkerhoff company, holds the master contract with VDOT. Parsons Brinkerhoff provides multidisciplinary services for transportation, power, buildings and telecommunications projects. They employ over 8,500 individuals in more than 250 offices worldwide.
