2. System Configuration

The hardware component of the current generation of the GPSVisionTM mobile mapping system consists of three major components: a Trimble 7400 dual frequency GPS receiver, a Litton LN-200 inertial navigation system and two sets of color, progressive scan CCD cameras.

GPSVisionTM is a very flexible system. Unlike other mobile data collection systems, GPSVisionTM is truly portable. The camera pod and rack assembly can be mounted in many different automobiles, rail cars and a variety of other vehicles. The system can be configured to accommodate many different types of GPS receivers, depending on application requirements. PC computers with standard operator interfaces provide the overall control, storage, display and operator interaction during data acquisition. They are constructed on passive backplanes and mounted in a rugged industrial chassis. Each CPU is a Pentium 4 PC executing a standard multi-tasking operating system.
